About

Hello,

I'm

Maria Aleman

I have been serving the children and families of the Boston Public Schools for more than a decade now. In my years in education, I have experience in Early Childhood, Sheltered Immersion, General Education and ESL programs. Each practice has enhanced me professionally and deepened my teaching capabilities.

As an educator, I know I am an ethical, dedicated and resourceful individual. I am proficient in both generating and maintaining records and reports; I ensure I comply with the administrative, district policies and regulations. Although it is a useful skill, my primary focus is on the learning needs of my students. I feel I am a hardworking teacher, who is committed to the education of all my students.

To provide the best learning environment for my students, I like to keep an organized and attractive classroom. I always try to teach at the highest quality of instruction by applying the knowledge I have gained from years of professional development. The coursework I completed for my teaching helped me to understand the components of early literacy and the intricate needs of English learners. Differentiation is key to facilitating all of my students’ needs. My broad experience in the education field has equipped me with a strong set of invaluable competencies.

My overall teaching approach is to focus on what is right for students and their specific learning needs. Throughout my time in education, I have dedicated myself to making sure my students receive the best education possible. I embrace the challenges I encounter in teaching, and I feel it has fashioned me into a better educator. I have always loved learning, and I believe I acquired my love of education from my mother. My mother gave me the gift of education, an invaluable gift I wish to pass on for years to come. Learning from my mother, and my training, I am a hard-working, dedicated and determined teacher. I have always wanted to contribute to the lives of others.

As a child, I emigrated from Cuba to the United States, I am proud to say I am biliterate; I was raised in a Spanish-speaking home. Besides this, I have well-developed interpersonal skills, and the ability to motivate others in a supportive way.  As a Cuban-American, I thrive amongst people of varying cultures, nationalities and socioeconomic backgrounds. The gift of biliteracy has allowed me to relate well with others on an emotional level while maintaining strong connections. My background has helped me to empathize with people’s stories, trials, and tribulations; so, I feel impartiality is my strength.

I gain enjoyment from learning about people's personal histories. Through these experiences, I solidify the connections I make with others. At the moment I serve in organizations, committees, and foundations, which give a sense of pride and satisfaction. Making a difference in people's lives is a necessity for an evolving world. On reflection, I feel my caring nature is a substantial part of my identity. Imagine if service and kindness were at the helm of all things? Just think of the countless possibilities we could create as individuals and communities.

Taking an active role in my school will help the school achieve success. With this goal in mind, I have taken it upon myself to mentor some of my colleagues voluntarily. I felt this role was ideally suited to my skillset and nature. As I move forward in my career, I plan to focus my attention to mentor in the teaching of other teachers. I strongly believe I have the commitment and drive to inspire others to be strong and productive educators. As Margaret Mead once said, “Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.” I am ready to help teachers mold the next generation.
